A 14-week campus improvement project, partially funded through state infrastructure funds, will begin on Wednesday, May 1, and continue throughout the summer. The construction projects include necessary upgrades to existing buildings, interior roadways and sidewalks, parking lots and the outdoor athletic field.
Beginning on May 1, Coughlin Field and portions of the North Parking Lot will be unavailable to students, staff, and the general public due to the staging of construction materials. Improvements to the field, which include turf and track replacement, a new scoreboard, and storage sheds begins Friday, May 17, and concludes Wednesday, August 14, weather permitting (see related story).
Dowden Hall, a student residence, will have its elevators removed and new elevators installed. It is anticipated to cause only minor disruptions to the campus. The Dowden Hall project runs from Wednesday, May 15, through Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Two HVAC units will be installed atop the roof of Ghosh Science and Technology Center. The parking lot nearest Ghosh (North Lot) will experience parking and traffic disruption from Friday, May 17, through Sunday, June 30, due to this improvement.
Interior improvements to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) include replacement of flooring around the library’s circulation desk and café, and replacement of the automated entry doors on the second floor. These improvements will take place from Monday, May 20, to Sunday, June 30.
Reconstruction and repaving of various interior roadways and parking lots, and electrical utility relocation will start on Monday, May 20, and run through Sunday, June 30, weather permitting, and will temporarily disrupt traffic flow and parking availability. Improvements include reconstruction of the road and new sidewalks between Lake Ellie and Sheehan Hall, improvements to the roadway at Lake Ellie continuing past the Sullivan Academic Building, improved access routes around the Student Center, as well as curb cuts and handicapped parking designations. The Commonwealth, in coordination with National Grid, is relocating electrical utilities and underground soil reclamation. The relocation of utilities will impact access to the North Lot during this time.
From Monday, July 1, through Tuesday, Aug. 20, there will be campus parking and roadway paving in the South Lot and upper Wasylean parking lot. The parking garage will remain open during the summer to accommodate students, staff, faculty, and visitors to campus throughout the summer construction project.
